Police: Man Who Caused Deadly Hit-and-Run Crash Arrested for Lying and Attempting to Conceal SUV
A man has been arrested after investigators say he caused a deadly hit-and-run crash and subsequently attempted to conceal his SUV and lied to police about his involvement. The arrest came after investigators traced the vehicle through surveillance footage and witness accounts.
The suspect is facing charges including vehicular homicide, leaving the scene of a fatal accident, and obstruction. The victim in the original hit-and-run crash died at the scene.
Hit-and-run cases that result in fatalities carry some of the most serious criminal penalties in Nevada. They also create civil liability that extends to insurance companies when the driver is identified - and sometimes before, through uninsured motorist coverage.
"Families who lose a loved one in a hit-and-run deserve justice on both the criminal and civil fronts," said attorney Timothy O'Reilly of Litigators for Justice. "We work in parallel with criminal investigations, preserving evidence and pursuing the civil claim so families aren't left waiting years for resolution."
